Beginner Croissants

I was in the mood for homemade croissants, the store bought ones just don't cut it anymore. Most taste like cardboard. These turned out delish!

Here's the recipe:

Ingredients
1 tsp. granulated sugar
1/4 cup warm water
8 g Active dry yeast

1 1/4 cups milk
1/3 cup sugar
1 1/2 tsps. salt
1 cup flour
1/4 cup butter (melted)

1 cup cold butter
4 1/2 cups flour

1 egg
1 tbsp. water

Prep
Stir first amount of sugar and warm water together in small bowl. Sprinkle yeast over top. Let stand 10 minutes. Stir to dissolve yeast.

Measure next 6 ingredients into medium bowl. Add yeast mixture. Beat until smooth.

Cut second amount of butter into second amount of flour in large bowl until it is the size of large peas. Add yeast mixture. Use rubber spatula to fold together just until flour is moistened. Divide dough into 4 equal portions. Wrap each portion in plastic wrap and chill 15 minutes. Remove one portion at a time from refridgerator and roll on lightly floured board into 16 inch circle. Cut into 8 or more wedges. Starting at wide end, roll loosely towards point. Arrange point side down, on ungreased baking sheet. Leave 2 inch space between each roll. Cover with a tea towel. Let stand in oven with light on and door closed for 1 hour or until almost double in size.

Beat egg with remaining water in small bowl with fork. Brush over each roll. Bake in 375 oven for about 15 minutes. Remove to rack and cool.

Enjoy!

Happy Labour Day Weekend!

Hmmmm Let's see what I've been into on my long Labor Day weekend..... housecleaning, laundry, cooking, grocery shopping, yard work...ugh!! Although I did get to sleep in! So much labor for Labor Day weekend!!  Sigh...oh well, I caught up on some scrapping and some web surfing that I hadn't been able to do for awhile, painted my toe nails and enjoyed the beautiful sunset.

What are your Labor Day plans? Are you jetting off to the Caribbean for a nice long weekend?  Are you having a cookout with friends? A quiet dinner with the family? Card games with the kids? Whatever your plans have a wonderful funfilled weekend!
